Namma Metro (Our Metro) is Bangalore's rapid transit system — India's third largest metro network as of 2026. The Yellow Line inauguration in August 2025 was the biggest metro expansion in years, finally connecting Electronic City (home to Infosys, Wipro, TCS) to central Bangalore. ⚠️ No Metro to Airport Yet — 2026 Status

The Blue Line airport metro (Silk Board → KR Puram → Hebbal → Yelahanka → KIAL) is under construction. Expected opening: late 2026, though BMRCL timelines have historically slipped. Currently, the nearest metro station to the airport is Nagasandra on the Green Line — from there, take a cab (₹600–900) or BMTC airport bus. Check BMRCL's official website for the latest Blue Line completion update before planning airport trips.

✅ Namma Metro Travel Tips

Peak hours (8–10 AM, 5:30–8 PM) are very crowded — women's coaches are less crowded. Majestic (Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station) is the main interchange between Purple and Green Lines — allow 5 minutes for platform change. RV Road is the Green–Yellow interchange for Electronic City. The BMRCL app lets you plan journeys, check real-time train status and find nearest stations. QR code tickets are now accepted at all stations — buy via UPI directly.

Namma Metro FAQ 2026

Bangalore has 3 operational lines: Purple Line (38 stations, Whitefield to Challaghatta, 42 km — East-West corridor), Green Line (32 stations, Madavara to Silk Institute, 33 km — North-South corridor), and Yellow Line (16 stations, RV Road to Bommasandra, 19 km — opened August 2025, Electronic City corridor). Total: 86 stations, ~77 km.
Metro fares start at ₹10 for the shortest journey and go up to ₹100 for the longest. Example: Majestic to Whitefield = ₹65 by token, ₹58 by smart card. Smart card gives 5–10% discount. Buy tokens at station vending machines (cash + UPI) or purchase QR code tickets via the BMRCL app. Monthly passes are available for frequent commuters.
The Yellow Line is Bangalore's newest metro corridor, inaugurated in August 2025. It runs 19 km from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road (interchange with Green Line at RV Road) to Delta Electronics Bommasandra — 16 stations via BTM Layout, Silk Board, Electronic City and Hosa Road. It's the most important metro addition in years, connecting Infosys, Wipro and TCS campuses in Electronic City to central Bangalore for the first time.
Not yet. The Blue Line airport metro (Silk Board to KIAL Airport, ~58 km) is under construction and expected to open late 2026. Currently, the nearest metro to the airport is Nagasandra on the Green Line — from there, take a cab (₹600–900) or BMTC airport bus KIA-1. Track the latest Blue Line progress at bmrc.co.in.
Recharge via: Paytm app (search Namma Metro), PhonePe app, BMRCL official website (bmrc.co.in), or at any metro station counter or ticket vending machine. Minimum recharge: ₹100. Maximum balance: ₹3,000. Buy a smart card at any station customer service centre — ₹50 refundable deposit + ₹50 initial balance = ₹100 total.
Sunday timings: 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM (1 hour earlier last train than Mon–Sat). Train frequency on Sundays is reduced — every 10–15 minutes. Monday to Saturday: 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with peak hour frequency of every 3–5 minutes. Public holidays follow Sunday timings.
